Oldest surviving, cast iron, Pier re-opened

Gravesend Pier

A business closure caused the oldest surviving, cast iron, pier to close six months ago. Culinary Solutions UK had taken lease on the property before going into administration.

The Pier, in Gravesend, was first opened in 1834 and, following an extensive renovation in 2006, was launched as a restaurant boasting stunning views of the Kent coastline.

The grade II listed Pier has now re-opened, to the delight of local residents.

Council leader Mike Snelling said re-opening the pier, which is at the end of the historic high street, has helped the town return to its "river heritage" and enhanced the town's "magnificent features".
